Product Descriptions - Add images, image descriptions, advanced formatting, and HTML. (Shopify)

Add bells and whistles to your product text!

When creating products for your Shopify Store, you may have noticed the default descriptions of our products include images, as well as Bold type and other formatting elements.

It's easy enough to delete these if you do not wish to use them, but what if you wanted to add some more images of your own, or add more formatting? 

There are a few different ways to do this. First let's look at how to add more images.

 

Add or change the images within the product description. 

As well as deleting the images by just pressing delete, It's possible to add additional images of your choosing. To do so, you will need to edit the product description from within Shopify:

• From within your products on ShineOn, click on the Shopify icon to open it in the Shopify Product Editor

• Within the Shopify Product Editor, you can simply click "add image" icon to open the add image dialog

• The image selector allows you to either upload your own image, or choose from one of the product images. Then click Insert image.

• If you need to add more images to this selection, or download an image you need, you can do so by following this guide, and following the above method again. 

 

Advanced formatting.

If you would like to format your text, there are a few options available to you. You can format the text within the ShineOn product editor using the formatting bar:

Or you can use the formatting bar within the Shopify Product Editor:

Both options provide a pretty limited suite of tools for you to use including Bold, underline, etc. If you would like access to more advanced options, its possible for you to create your description within word processing software, such as Microsoft Word, or Google Docs, then simply copy and paste the text across. 

Note that adding images into word processing software and then copying those across along with text will not add the images to the description. This is because the images need to first be uploaded to Shopify. To add images you must follow the method at the top of this guide.

 

Using HTML and alt text (image description text).

Shopify allows the use of HTML within the product descriptions. This can help you add another layer of advanced formatting such alt text to images within the description, or use other HTML text formatting. 

To access this:

• Click the Show HTML button within the formatting bar on Shopify Product editor:

• You can now add or edit the HTML code:

If you wish to add image description text:

• Locate the image code for the image you wish to edit. It will start with <img and look similar to this:

• Add a space in between the " and > symbols at the end, and type alt="YOUR TEXT" - it should look similar to this:

• You can now click save!

It's possible to add even more kinds of HTML code to your description, so experiment and see what works!
