What is Package Protection?
Package Protection is a service we offer which offers an extra level of security for orders.
Package protection is only available via Shopify.
Also known as PP, it is an extension to our remakes policy, which also covers the allowance of a remake under the following circumstance:
- The item is marked as delivered on tracking, but the customer did not receive it.
If you would like to know the full terms, you can read them here.
Package protection can be sold as an upsell, and/or enabled store-wide and apply to all orders:
- Enabling PP as an upsell requires the customer to pay for it. You will earn some profit from the upsell of PP, but customers may opt-out and leave their packages unprotected if it is not enabled store-wide.
- Enabling PP store-wide will add PP to every order from that store. The fee is charged to the seller if the customer opted-out or was not offered the PP upsell. This means every order will be protected regardless of if the customer paid for package protection or not.
- It's possible to enable both. If the customer opted in - they pay, and if they opted out - you pay.
It's recommended to enable both, as this will offer complete protection for orders on your store.
Package Protection Costs
Package protection always has a base cost starting at $1.49*
When a customer opts in to Package Protection on an order they pay $2.98*, this covers the base cost and gives you $1.49* profit.
If the customer opted-out or was not offered the PP upsell and PP is enabled store-wide, you will pay $1.49*
*actual cost will increase on a scale for order carts valued over $100.
How to configure Package Protection.
PP is pre-configured by default as an upsell option on your Shopify products. Package protection can be a great way to increase your average order value, so it's recommended to leave it turned on. Offering PP as an upsell provides you with some extra income, and both yourself and the customer peace of mind.
The details of this can be found within the cart upsells option of the product edit page.
You can enable store-wide package protection from within Store Settings.
